CHAPTER 9 OF 12

Chapter 9: your father, your guru and the path you are on

Chapter 9 holds two things that sit together on the leaf: your father, and your spiritual life. It reads the relationship between you and him, what reaches you through him, and then turns to your guru, your spiritual path, the organs that may trouble you, and the fortunes open to you in this birth.

What this chapter covers

The first half of the chapter is your father. It describes the relationship between the two of you as the Maharishis recorded it, which is not always the relationship a person expects to hear described.

Then it sets out the benefits that come to you through him. Financial benefits are one part. Ancestral properties are another. The third is the love, care and affection you receive from your father, which the leaf treats as a benefit in the same way it treats money and land.

From there the chapter turns to the spiritual path of this birth. It speaks about your spiritual guru, including whether that guru is male or female. It describes how far you travel on that path in this birth and what shape it takes.

Philanthropic activity is read here too. If charitable work is written for you, the chapter says so.

The chapter also names the organs in your body which may cause trouble to you. That is the extent of it: the organ, not a diagnosis, not a medicine, not a timeline of treatment. It is a line in an old text, and it belongs in a doctor’s consulting room before it belongs anywhere else.

It closes with the luck and fortunes you can enjoy in this life. That is the line people tend to repeat afterwards, because it is the widest statement in an otherwise close chapter.

Questions this chapter answers

  • What does the leaf record about the relationship between me and my father?
  • What financial benefit comes to me through my father?
  • Are ancestral properties shown as reaching me through him?
  • What love, care and affection from my father is written in this birth?
  • Is a spiritual guru shown for me, and is that guru male or female?
  • How far does my spiritual path go in this birth?
  • Is philanthropic activity written for me?
  • Which organs in my body are indicated as ones that may trouble me, and what luck and fortunes can I enjoy?

How chapter 9 sits beside the other chapters

Chapter 9 is the father’s chapter, which makes it the pair to chapter 4, where the mother, land, property and vehicles are read. People who come for family questions usually take the two together, and the two chapters rarely say the same thing.

On health, this chapter stops at the organ. The illness itself, the diet, the bad habits and the method of treatment shown as suitable are read in chapter 6 on debts, litigation, enemies and illness. If you want the body read in detail, that is the Medicinal chapter among the seven special chapters, and it is read alongside your doctor rather than instead of one.

The spiritual half of chapter 9 is the doorway to Njana Kandam, the special chapter that takes the path much further. The chapter before this one is chapter 8 on longevity, and the chapter after it turns to work: chapter 10 on your job, promotions and business.

Nadi readings are a traditional practice. Nothing here is medical, legal or financial advice, and no outcome is guaranteed. Please continue to follow your doctor.

Questions people ask about chapter 9

My father has passed away. Can this chapter still be read? +

Yes. The chapter describes what is written about him and about what reaches you through him, including ancestral property and the affection recorded between you. People in that position often find the chapter is the one that settles something for them, because the details can be checked against a life already lived.

Why are the father and the spiritual path in the same chapter? +

Because that is how the Maharishis wrote it. The ninth chapter carries the father, the benefits through him, the guru and the spiritual path together on the same leaf. We read the chapters in the order and the grouping the leaf uses rather than rearranging them to suit a modern list.

Does the chapter tell me which organ I will have a problem with? +

It names the organs which may cause trouble to you. That is not a diagnosis and it is not a prediction of illness. If a line in this chapter worries you, the right next step is a doctor and a test, not a second reading. We will say the same thing in the sitting.

I am not a religious person. Is half this chapter wasted on me? +

Not necessarily. The spiritual half also covers philanthropic activity and the fortunes open to you in this birth, and plenty of people who describe themselves as not religious take the chapter for the father half alone. Nothing in the reading asks you to adopt a practice you do not want.

Can my father sit in on the reading? +

Family members are welcome in the room, and many people bring one. Keep in mind that the leaf is yours, so the chapter describes the relationship from your side. If your father wants his own chapters read, that needs his own thumbprint and his own leaf, found separately.
